Workshop

Monthly defensive pistol workshop, fourth Saturday of each month.

The Cochise Defensive Pistol Workshop is open to the public and is sponsored by the Cochise Gun Club in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Shooters at all levels are welcome, including beginners, ladies and teens. The workshop is a chance to practice marksmanship and work on skills that can improve your performance at the match.

We can provide some coaching to help sharpen your skills, but this event is not considered training or instruction. One local resource for training is Armed Everyday, 520-379-1493.

Workshops are held on the fourth Saturday of each month at the Sierra Vista Range (not necessarily the last Saturday). Sign-up starts at 8:30 a.m. The mandatory safety briefing starts at 9:00 a.m. Cost: $10.

Workshop format

  • Equipment and ammunition requirements are the same as the match.
  • Minimum recommended caliber is 9mm, but smaller calibers can be used.
  • Basic safety rules are reviewed.
  • Pistol shooting fundamentals are practiced using dry and live fire.
  • Reloads are practiced, so at least two magazines or speed loaders are needed.
  • Specific defensive pistol match skills are practiced as chosen by the workshop leader.
  • Usually a stage resembling a typical match stage is practiced.
  • Participants are encouraged to give each other constructive critiques.
  • The skills practiced here will enhance Concealed Carry Permit instruction.
  • This workshop is not self-defense pistol training, but the gun handling skills practiced will add to your self-defense capabilities.
  • New shooters are welcome, but this is not a substitute for basic pistol instruction.
