Qualifier

The twice-yearly qualifier stage that sets each shooter's class.

Scheduled twice per year, during the February and August matches.

This drill tests:

  • Drawing and indexing the gun
  • Recognizing an acceptable sight picture
  • Calling the shot
  • Recovering from recoil and pressing and releasing the trigger smoothly
  • Use of cover
  • Strong-hand and support-hand shooting

Course of fire

Place four IDPA targets behind barriers at 15, 10 and 5 yards. Start in the surrender position, loaded with no more than 6 rounds.

  1. From P1, engage T1 and T2 with 2 shots each, freestyle.
  2. Move to P2 and engage T3 with 2 shots freestyle, using the barrier as cover.
  3. Emergency reload.
  4. Engage T3 with 2 shots freestyle from the other side of the barrier.
  5. Move to P3 and engage T4 with 2 shots strong hand from the strong side of the barrier.
  6. Transition to support hand and engage T3 with 2 shots support hand from the support side of the barrier.

12 shots, “limited Vickers” scoring: 12 shots only, no more than 4 on any one target.

Classification result = cumulative time plus penalties. The class table is below.

Shooters are reclassified every six months based on previous qualifier scores. Classification is only used for comparison, to measure changes in skill level. We trust shooters have the integrity not to “sandbag” for a lower classification.
